Family Arts Festival Finale Event at Arnolfini (The Inventor’s Workshop)

Family Arts Festival Finale at Arnolfini (The Inventor’s Workshop)

Drop-in

Please note: This event took place in Oct 2016

Enter the inventor's workshop and see what fantastic inventions you can make at this free afternoon of family creativity at the Arnolfini, celebrating the end of the 2016 Bristol Family Arts Festival, with a range of activities from festival partners including Arnolfini, Architecture Centre, Bristol Doors Open Day, and Artrageous.

We’ll be there exploring how cinema got started, and what better way to find out than by interacting with models of early cinema artefacts and creating your own moving images? With plenty of pencils and paper at the ready, you can get drawing and make your own movies using model praxinoscopes, zoetropes and thaumatropes, as we show you how magic tricks and illusions created the moving images that began the awesome story of film!

Maybe you’ll create a scene with a spooky twist just in time for Halloween? There’ll be lots of inspiring images on hand for you and your little ones to work from, including stills from our October half term family film Phantom Boy (Sat 22 - Sat 29 Oct) - a beautiful hand drawn French animation set in New York.

Our activity (which is most suited to kids aged 6 - 12) accompanies a variety of arts workshops on offer in the auditorium of the Arnolfini and there will be things on offer for all ages including a chill out area for your very little ones. Just drop in any time between 13:00 - 17:00 and enjoy an afternoon of inventiveness!

With thanks to the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum for the loan of early cinema replica items.
