Join us on a day trip to Curzon Cinema and Arts in Clevedon for a tour of one of the oldest running cinemas in the UK, followed by a screening of iconic sci- fi Soylent Green.

Richard Fleischer’s eerily prescient 70s sci-fi classic is set in a not-too-distant future with population levels almost at breaking point, and fresh food has all but disappeared. With strawberry jam costing more than gold, the promise of a new food source has the potential to save humanity. But all is not as it seems, and a grisly assassination leads a New York detective (Charlton Heston) down a path of conspiracy and murder. Will the truth be buried in the archives of the past, or can the detective survive long enough to break the shocking story?

This screening will take place in Clevedon's Curzon Cinema & Arts, a short trip from Bristol. Originally opened in 1912, rebuilt in the 1920s and still in operation as a cinema today, Curzon Cinema & Arts has a rich history and grand tradition of cinema-going as an event. The afternoon includes a guided tour of the building with a behind the scenes look at the original projection booth, a demonstration of the original Christie cinema organ, followed by the screening.

Coach travel to and from Clevedon is included in the ticket price. Spaces are limited (20 places maximum) and the tour element at Curzon will involve some steps so unfortunately this part of the event is not wheelchair accessible. There will be a one-hour break for lunch (refreshments not included.)

Schedule:

11:15 - Coach to Clevedon (meet at 11:00 in Watershed's top foyer)
12:00 - Christie organ demonstration and guided tour
13:00 - Free time - you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit a local cafe
14:00 - Screening of Soylent Green (With an Introduction by Peter Walsh)
16:15 - Coach back to Bristol
17:00 - Arrival back in Bristol
