A musical journey through the streets of Kinsasha observing the music of the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploring the many gifted yet impoverished musicians who use their talent, humour and energy to help them to survive.
Jupiter Bokondji, the charismatic leader of the band "Okwess International", acts as the narrator and guide as he introduces us to the Kinshasa music scene - teenage rappers, bluesmen who are disabled, street children, griots and guitar craftsmen –and throughout the documentary describes his 20-year quest to bring his music out of the ghetto.
An exciting documentary where the sheer power of music and passion come through in every frame, giving voice to an ultimately celebratory experience.
