With exclusive, behind-the-scenes access, Whispering Truth To Power charts the final year in office of South African anti-corruption champion Thuli Madonsela as she attempts to seek justice for ordinary people.
After successfully challenging President Jacob Zuma for illegal use of state funds, Thuli faces the biggest challenge of her career: investigating - in the face of protests, death threats and legal challenges – the alleged systematic takeover of government by a private family in cahoots with the President.
As well as documenting the tense story of Masonsela's last year in public office, director Shameela Seedata crafts an absorbing tale of an outstanding lawyer, mother and woman, whilst also providing insight into several continuing critical issues facing South Africa, such as ongoing inequality, racial tensions, land redistribution, and corruption.
Followed by a panel discussion with:
Dr Foluke Adebisi - Senior lecturer in Law at University of Bristol
Dr Edson Burton - Writer, historian, curator & performer
Sisanda Myataza - South African composer, musician, producer
Poku Osei - CEO Babbasa
