Despite Hollywood’s best efforts, lesbians have made it to the big screen and this documentary follows some of the most influential lesbian filmmakers of the past 50 years, pulling back the curtain to reveal a wealth of talent and history shared by these powerful women.
After director Caroline Berler couldn’t find any films on their contributions, she decided to take matters into her own hands and document a history of queer cinema from the women who made it happen. Featuring filmmakers Barbara Hammer, Su Friedrich, Rose Troche, Cheryl Dunye, Yoruba Richen, Desiree Akhavan, Vicky Du, film critic B. Ruby Rich, Jenni Olson, the film tells their stories with heart and hilarity, allowing them to share how they’ve expressed their queer identity through cinema.
