Lunchtime Talk: An Old Quilt - Where Every Patch Tells Your Story
Please note: This event took place in May 2020
For this lunchtime talk, Studio resident and Programme Director at Bristol's Stomping Ground Pravanya Pillay asks the question what do the textiles in your house tell you?
Tales from your grandmother’s coat, journeying across continents to the UK and making a home. Stories from spills, meals and celebrations seen on a tablecloth. Legends from the best friend and protector found in a baby’s blanket. Every piece of fabric in your home has a story to tell.
But what can you find in an old quilt?
In Stomping Ground’s old quilt, every patch tells the story of a young person of colour living in Bristol right now. Every patch is a stage showcasing their creativity and talent, a doorway to their world. Every patch is an adventure that you don’t want to miss out on.
Pravanya will be discussing her work with Stomping Ground, working with a group of young people to develop a piece of creative work, plus their mission to making arts fully accessible for underrepresented and less advantaged young people and more.
Stomping Ground has a mission to unapologetically transform arts and culture in Bristol. The Stomping Ground future is one where the arts are fully accessible for underrepresented and less advantaged young people. Their goal is for young people to experience an arts scene that is fully representative of their ideas, creativity and stories.
