Ulrike Ottinger, one of Germany’s most prominent contemporary avant-garde artists, known for her paintings, photographs, and her films, lived in Paris in the 1960s.
Using an impressive and extensive archive of sensorial memories, historical photographs, and documentary footage, she shares memories of the Parisian life and the upheavals of the time.
Covering both her integration into the rich intellectual and cultural circles of the city, and also engagement in the political and social eruptions around the Algerian War in May 1968, Ottinger creates a remarkable cinematic poem with the city at its centre.
Presented as part of Future City Film Festival, which takes place biennially in the autumn but had to be postponed last year due to the pandemic. It will now run through 2022 as a series of special events with the support of the British Film Institute awarding funds from National Lottery.
In association with Institut français du Royaume-Uni.
