A new historical epic telling the remarkable story of the Agojie: the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen.Inspired by true events, we follow the emotional journey of General Nanisca (Viola Davis in an absolutely thrilling performance) as she trains the next generation of recruits and readies them to protect their kingdom from adversarial neighbours, European colonisers, and the horrors of the slave trade.
With an outstanding supporting cast including Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu and John Boyega, this is a rare film that combines vast scale, rousing entertainment and intimate emotion. See it on the big screen before it sweeps up awards season next year.
Please join us in the Café/Bar for an informal discussion after the screening, which will include BSL interpretation. You’ll receive 10% off drinks with your cinema ticket – so grab a glass and let us know your thoughts about The Woman King.
