'We have marched, sued and collaborated yet Black people must almost always rely on allies to finance our fights. The evidence shows those traditional strategies don't always yield the results we want in the timeframe we need. We must be able to fund what we want (and for how long we want it) or risk always begging to remain the flavour of the moment.' - Eric Collins
Join us for an afternoon exploring the challenges and opportunities facing Black businesses and entrepreneurs with Eric Collins, host of the award-winning Channel 4 Show The Money Maker and author of new book We Don't Need Permission - How Black Business Can Change The World.
The afternoon is in two parts:
14:15 - Screening of Chris Rock’s 2009 documentary Good Hair introduced by Eric
Good Hair sets out to explore the importance of hair in Black culture, interrogating the complex international business of hair and how (seemingly in equal measure) it has both empowered and disempowered Black communities, at once exploring reigning definitions of beauty and the persistence of white supremacy in those challenging definitions.
16:00 - Talk and discussion with Eric Collins where he will share his expertise on successful entrepreneurship
Collins' new book reveals how it's possible to transform a system that has helped some, while holding others back, aiming to inspire and motivate under-represented people to take their future into their own hands, simultaneously demanding current business leaders and organisations do business better, now.
There will be a short interval between the two events.
