Charlotte "Charlie" Newton (Theresa Wright) lives a cosy family life with her parents in the idyllic neighbourhood of Santa Rosa.

When charming and sophisticated Charles "Uncle Charlie" Oakley (Joseph Cotton) comes to visit at short notice young Charlie’s world begins to unravel when she becomes suspicious of her uncle’s behaviour.

In Hitchcock’s hands, the stranger becomes someone you thought you knew and with Shadow of a Doubt he puts the idyllic suburban family life under his thrilling scrutiny, expertly heightening the suspense and tension.
