Made in 1948 and the final film in Roberto Rossellini’s war film trilogy, Germany Year, Zero takes place in Allied-occupied Germany.
Rossellini used mainly local, non-professional actors - as in many neo-realist films - and used locations in Berlin to highlight the reality of German defeat in its near total destruction in World War II.
The story of the human struggle for survival following the destruction of Nazism, which is perhaps the best example of the ‘rubble films’ to appear post-Second World War.
