The semi-autobiographical animation by proclaimed Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki.
Set in 1943, a young boy named Mahito yearns for his mother after a bomb claimed her life. After moving from the city to the countryside, Mahito ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning.
Miayazaki's latest (and no longer final) film delves into themes of life, death and creation. It's an overwhelming fantasy that, like many of his films, considers the importance of friendship.
