Deaf Conversations about Cinema: Your Fat Friend

Talk

Please note: This event took place in Feb 2024

Join us at the 18:15 screening of Your Fat Friend on Mon 12 Feb which will feature Descriptive Subtitles and an introduction from Mandy Rose, Professor, Documentary & Digital Cultures, UWE. This will be followed at 20:00 by a post screening discussion in the Café & Bar with audience members and Mandy.

The evening will be hosted by Deaf artist, performer and filmmaker David Ellington and will feature BSL interpretation throughout.

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Jeanie Finlay (Seahorse, Sound It Out) follows the journey of writer and activist Aubrey Gordon, who went from being an anonymous blogger, sharing her honest experiences of navigating life as a fat person, to a New York Times-bestselling author and podcast host.

Finlay presents a wonderful and frank portrait of the inspiring and very funny Gordon, but also an essential, empathetic call for us to rethink our relationships and attitudes to the word ‘fat’, and our own bodies.

Please join us in the Café/Bar after the screening for an informal discussion, which will include BSL interpretation. You’ll receive 10% off drinks with your cinema ticket – so grab a glass and let us know your thoughts about Your Fat Friend.
