A gloriously romantic city symphony set over one hot summer’s night.
Chantal Akerman made this film almost from the point of view of Brussels itself, as if the city was capturing all the fragile, brief romantic encounters happening across its homes and streets throughout one passionate and sultry midsummer’s evening.
Toute une nuit is one of Akerman's most poetic films, merging the nighttime, romance and despair into one beautiful package.
Akerman’s short Rue Mallet-Stevens, about a mysterious moment of romance in Paris (featuring Akerman and her partner, the cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton) screens before the feature.
