Pervasive Media Studio, Watershed
This is a free event, no booking necessary.
First Friday is a monthly social and showcasing event open to anyone. It takes place in the Pervasive Media Studio every First Friday throughout the year except for August and January. As well as the chance to socialise in the Pervasive Media Studio, attendees joining the event will also get to see a selection of work by some of our Studio community.
March Event
This month we'll be highlighting creative tech projects that celebrate, connect with, and support communities. To help us do this, we're excited to welcome Knowle West Media Centre. They'll be sharing insights from their work, including examples from their current exhibition, Foundations for the Future.
The Artists
Circus x VR Community Exploration Days brings together circus performers and creative technologists to explore the intersection of circus arts and VR/MR/XR, questioning what might be lost—or gained—when circus movement enters digital spaces. Dominique Vyborna and Jonathan Priest will examine how embodied technology interacts with circus movement, offering insights into the evolving relationship between physical performance and virtual environments.
Daniel Bacchus is a digital artist who specialises in VR/AR/XR, digital installation, and experimental games. He is presenting a proof of concept for a game currently in development with the Bristol Digital Game Lab at the University of Bristol. The game explores the complex subject of paternal perinatal depression, seeking to provide an innovative approach to this sensitive and often underrepresented topic.
Knowle West Media Centre has been working at the intersection of community and technology for almost 30 years. They will be sharing examples of their practice, featuring interviews and videos from their current exhibition Foundations for the Future. This exhibition highlights the growth of ideas and the impact they’ve had in collaboration with the local community.
Sound Reactions is a creative partnership between Giorgio Cortiana and Jay Auborn, who work with interactive audio. Together with Mark Gillings, an archaeologist at the University of Bristol, they are developing a way for Avebury’s ancient monoliths to tell their own stories. This innovative project includes the creation of a custom Bone Conduction device that allows the stones to "speak," bringing a new voice to historical sites.
About Pervasive Media Studio
The Pervasive Media Studio hosts an international community of over 200 artists, companies, technologists, and academics exploring experience design and creative technology. It's a space for risk taking and early ideas; for the kind of projects and questions that inhabit the meeting points of art, technology, and society.
The projects span play, robotics, location-based media, food, connected objects, interactive documentary, new forms of performance and more.
We have an open plan studio with a culture of generosity, curiosity, and interruptibility. We believe that by clustering people together from a broad range of backgrounds, with differing skills, experience, and opinions, all of our ideas become better.
