In this Lunchtime Talk, artist and technologist Tarim explores the complex relationship between technology and society, questioning the impact of data-driven systems and how individuals can take control of their digital footprint.

How concerned should we be about the power of big data companies? What are the risks to our personal privacy? And, more importantly, what can we do about it?

About Tarim

Tarim creates Media Playgrounds interactive installations designed for people to engage with and reshape into new spaces for play. He has developed projects such as Instant Graffiti, a mobile-controlled digital graffiti wall; Musical Stairs, an interactive sound installation responding to footsteps; and Fountains (in development), a vision for enabling the people of Bristol to control city-centre fountains from their devices.

About the Pervasive Media Studio

The Pervasive Media Studio is a partnership between Watershed, University of the West of England and University of Bristol. Lunchtime Talks are partly supported by MyWorld, a project led by the University of Bristol to support creative industries in the region.
