In this Lunchtime Talk we will explore Dhaqan Collective's journey with The House of Weaving Songs, a domed steel structure based on an Aqal, a nomadic home found in the arid landscapes of Somalia. The installation is inspired by a moment shared with an elder during a workshop in which they sang from a tapestry they had woven, leading to an ongoing inquiry about how we make homes through songs that act as both literal construction, and a metaphorical manual for co-existence.

About Dhaqan Collective

Dhaqan Collective is a Somali feminist art duo made up of Ayan Cilmi and Fozia Ismail. Their practice seeks to find ways of building imaginative futures that support Somali people in the UK and East Africa, to resist threats over their cultural heritage.
