Watershed presents... an evening featuring the sound of sci-fi and a screening of Silent Running
As part of the BFI's Sci-Fi season Days of Fear and Wonder we are delighted to present a one off sci-fi experience at the magnificent Eden Project in Cornwall.
Audiences will experience a unique audio soundscape created by Portishead's Adrian Utley and Goldfrapp's Will Gregory in the Mediterranean Biome before a screening of cult classic Silent Running in the Gallery.
Renowned film critic Mark Kermode will be presenting one of his favourite films, the intelligent and entertaining eco-themed Silent Running (1972), against the backdrop of the Eden Project's spectacular Biomes. The Eden Project provides the perfect setting for Special FX pioneer Douglas Trumbull's directorial debut, featuring the very greenhouse domes that influenced the design of Eden's botanical Biomes.
Silent Running stars Bruce Dern as ecology-aware Freeman Lowell, one of four crew members aboard a vast spaceship carrying Earth's last surviving forests in giant atmosphere-controlled domes. Adrift in space in a literal Garden of Eden that was intended to refurbish an Earth devastated by nuclear war, Freeman refuses to destroy the last remnants of the earth's vegetation when ordered to. Instead, he decides to go it alone and with the help of a trio of endearing robots named Huey, Dewey, and Louie, he tends his garden, and then sends it out into deep space to seed a possible second chance for mankind.
Ticket prices: £20.00 full / £16.00 concessions. Doors open at 19:00, music in the Mediterranean Biome will take place from 19:30-20:15, and Mark Kermode will present the film in the Gallery at 20:30. The event will be over by 22:30. Please note this event has now SOLD OUT.
