Please note: This event took place in Oct 2014
DJ Food (Ninja Tune/Solid Steel) presents a turntablist soundscape of sci-fi songs, cosmic music and retro electronic visions of a future very different from the one we live in now before a screening of Sun Ra film Space Is The Place, one of the most elusive music films of all time!
After debuting at the Anish Kapoor-designed ArcelorMittal Orbit tower in London earlier this summer DJ Food is expanding this non-club headtrip set into newer, more far out dimensions. Expect an ever-shifting selection of space journeys, psychedelic explorations and modular synth soundtracks layered with spoken word from beyond...
So join us from 22:00 - 23:00 in the Café/Bar for cosmic tuneage like no other. Entry is FREE but ticket holders to Space Is The Place (at 23:00) get priority entry.
More Music and Film...
Music is a planet-sized part of almost all of the greatest science fiction movies ever and you’re in luck - we have a whole universe of Film and Music sci fi events coming up curated by Bristol’s very own AV pioneer DJ Cheeba (Ninja Tune/Solid Steel).
Keep your eyes to the skies for a live DJ set from electro-acoustic heroes Bronnt Industries Kapital followed by James Cameron's classic Terminator 2: Judgement Day (Fri 14 Nov 23:00), Cheeba himself will be taking to the decks to perform the premiere of his live score for Plan 9 From Outer Space (Fri 21 Nov 21:30), Ed Wood Jr’s sci-fi opus, one of the worst - and most loveable - films ever made, and Ollie Teeba (Herbaliser/Soundsci) presents an inspired re-imagining and homage to the mother of all alien invasion thrillers, sci fi classic War of the Worlds (Fri 28 Nov from 22:00).
