A documentary focusing on Albie Sachs, a lawyer, writer, art lover and freedom fighter, set against the dramatic events leading to the overthrow of the apartheid regime in South Africa. As a young man, Albie defended those committed to ending apartheid, and for his actions was sent to solitary confinement, tortured through sleep deprivation and forced into exile. In 1988 he was blown up by a car bomb set by South African security forces in Mozambique, costing him his right arm and the sight of one eye, but miraculously, he survived. Returning to South Africa after the release of Nelson Mandela, Albie helped write his 'soft vengeance' - the new Constitution, which has protected the rights of all South Africans for the past 17 years. A positive and uplifting view of the values of forgiveness.
Followed by a Skype Q&A with Albie Sachs, who will join us live from South Africa.
Ticket prices: £8.00 full / £6.50 concessions.
