Please note: This event took place in Nov 2015
Join us for a timely debate with a special panel of artists, academics and scientists for a public discussion on climate change, in advance of the world premiere of Deep Above at Watershed, a new short film by award-winning artist Adam Chodzko.
Deep Above explores the behavioural psychology of our apathetic response to climate change and our failure to transform our behaviour. We all know climate change is happening; we experience extreme weather conditions and observe the data, imagery and analysis as evidence, and ‘everyone’ seems to be talking about it. We appreciate, intellectually, climate change’s potential devastating impact on our planet and yet simultaneously we distance ourselves from feeling this danger, diverting our belief into fantasies that somehow, individually, we are impervious.
Join the debate to discuss what we can do now.
Panellists include Adam Chodzko, artist, Isobel Tarr, HighWaterline, David Cross, artist (Cornford & Cross), Adam Corner, Climate Outreach and Livvy Drake, Shambala Festival
Don't miss a further debate at the University of Bristol's Cabot Institute:
Debate: Can psychology help us to accept and act on the scientific evidence of climate change? Wed 11 Nov at 12:00. Free tickets. With panellists George Marshall, Climate Outreach Information Network and Professor Stephan Lewandowsky, Chair in Cognitive Psychology, Bristol University.
Deep Above is commissioned by Invisible Dust, advised by Dr Adam Harris, University College London, produced in association with Watershed and Shambala Festival and funded by the Wellcome Trust. Presented in partnership with Watershed and Festival of Ideas as part of Bristol Green Capital.
