For No Good Reason + Directors Q&A
classified 15Please note: This was screened in Dec 2015
Take off on a high-spirited, anarchic journey to discover the life and works of one of Britain's most important radical artists and cartoonists.
Ralph Steadman rose to prominence in the early 70's when his impassioned, often macabre, and stirring images gained recognition for their bold comments on human rights violations and world politics in leading publications such as Punch, The New Yorker, New Statesman and Private Eye. His work has since included artwork for a limited edition release of highly successful TV series Breaking Bad, album artwork for musicians such as SLASH, studies of Sigmund Freud and Leonardo da Vinci, and illustrations for classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm.
Charlie Paul's 15 year long project to create this award winning documentary explores the connections between Steadman's life and art, and the artistic process – which at times is wrought with torment - and is narrated by his long-time friend Johnny Depp. Featuring contributions from Terry Gilliam and Richard E Grant, For No Good Reason is a fantastic voyage into the world of this seminal artist in which he shares his artistic goals and caricaturist shorthand.
Followed by Q&A with Director Charlie Paul.
