Scott Hendy Presents The Fringe All Day Session with DJ Krust, DJ Suv and Flynn

part of Let All The Children Boogie: The Fringe at Watershed

Performance

Please note: This event took place in Feb 2016

Catch Scott Hendy (Malachai/Boca 45) and guests in the Café/Bar for an all day session as part of the BBC Radio 6 Music Fringe. He is joined by special guests DJ Krust, DJ Suv and Flynn for a classic Fresh 4 set after the Fresh 4 in conversation event with Gilles Peterson

Think of the ‘Bristol Sound’ and the same three or four bands tend to spring to mind – however, the first widely heard example of the pioneering new sound from the West Country came with a 1989 attack on the Top 10 from South Bristol in the shape of established collective Fresh 4, DJ Krust, Flynn, Suv, and Judge. Co-produced by fellow Bristol pioneers Smith and Mighty, Wishing on a Star was the first exposure many people outside Bristol got to the unique fusion of heavy bass lines, hip hop beats, soulful vocals and new takes on classic songs.

In the following decade Krust, Flynn and Suv would all go on to find greater success as pioneers and mainstays of Bristol’s hugely successful drum and bass scene, writing new chapters that overshadowed their earlier success.

It’s now 25 years since Fresh 4’s Wishing on a Star changed the Bristol music landscape and influenced a generation of artists. Krust, Flynn and Suv, the remaining members of Fresh 4, come together for an In Conversation event (at 17:00) and will be spinning tunes in the Café/Bar after the event (until 20:00). Entry to The Fringe DJ events at Watershed is free – so drop in whenever you like!
