As a TV dramatist alone, she is on a par with Alan Bennett, while as a creator of comedy programmes she changed the field for women and indeed for everybody, because very few of the men were trying hard enough as writers before she came on the scene and showed them what penetrating social humour should actually sound like.
– Clive James, Critic.
One of the great British comedians and all-round entertainers of her generation, the sudden passing of comedic giant and Slapstick Festival regular Victoria Wood CBE in April this year was a huge loss.
Andrew Kelly (Director, Bristol Festival of Ideas) hosts a panel looking at the extraordinary contribution Victoria Wood made to comedy writing, performance and stand up. Join Andrew and stand-up comedians Lucy Porter and Pippa Evans, along with comedy and theatre historian Louise Wingrove, as we celebrate one of Britain’s most talented and best loved comedians.
Presented in partnership with Bristol University and Bristol Festival of Ideas.
