To celebrate the return of the Japan Foundation Touring programme (Sat 4 - Mon 20 Feb) we are screening Studio Ghibli gem Ponyo for half term.
Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle), often described as the world's greatest living animator, lends his exceptional imagination to this enchanting, magical story loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's the Little Mermaid. Ponyo, a perky little goldfish, adventures on to land and is rescued by Sosuke, a 5-year-old boy who lives on a cliff above the ocean and promises to protect her always. Their friendship strikes in Ponyo a burning desire to become human, but the actions she takes to achieve her dream trigger a catastrophic event. How will they put the natural world back in balance? A visually wonderful, truly unique and charmingly gentle mix of fantasy, adventure and affection, this is a lush treat for younger animation fans!
Families - head to the Café/Bar before or after the film to try your hand at origami, the Japanese art of paper folding.
