A young Englishman plots revenge against his mysterious cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian, in this dark romance based upon the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier.

When Phillip (Sam Claflin) hears of his cousin Ambrose’s death from an apparent brain tumour, he believes Ambrose’s wife Rachel (Rachel Weisz) is to blame and determines to find out what really happened. But when Rachel and Phillip begin to spend time together he becomes captivated by the beguiling presence of the enigmatic widow and finds himself falling under the spell of her charms.

Director Roger Michel’s (Notting Hill, Le Weekend) thriller adds modern psychology to its period setting to hugely entertaining effect and is enhanced by the elegant wintry tones of cinematographer Mike Eley (The Selfish Giant) and two brilliant central performances. Especially Rachel Weisz, who is captivating as the enigmatic heroine, keeping the mercury rising with a black widow performance that's brimmed full of deliciously unsolved mystery.
