Animation in Croatia has a long and successful history. Films by the filmmakers from Zagreb school of animation, established in the 50s, have secured their place in the world history of animation. At its peak, visually bold shorts from Zagreb film studio were influentially changing the game of this marvelous art form.
After a creative crisis in 80s and the 90s, Croatian animation is successful again with quite a few films entering best film festival competitions and earning international awards in the last two decades. This was a record year for Croatian film at the World Festival of Animated Film – Animafest Zagreb, with six Croatian films (including 4 minority Croatian productions) in the Grand Competition and three films that competed in Student Film Competition. Their quality has been confirmed by the awards – Grand Prix for Nighthawk.
Enjoy the best of Croatian animation 2017!
