On the Rocks at the Minack Theatre
Please note: This was screened in Oct 2017
Watershed and Compass Presents ‘On the Rocks’, an expanded cinema screening at the world famous Minack Theatre in Cornwall, renowned for its iconic location perched on the cliffs above the Atlantic ocean. The dramatic location forms the backdrop for a special outdoor screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s Jamaica Inn.
This little-known classic film adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's 1936 novel has recently benefitted from a 4k restoration enabling contemporary audiences the opportunity to experience this film in its full glory for the first time.
The evening will consist of a film screening and an archive trail, where the cliff faces and rocks of the open air amphitheatre will be animated with film and projection. The audience will then settle down to watch Hitchcock’s thrilling pirate caper set along the recognisably rugged Cornish coastline.
Doors will open at 19:00 for the public to explore the iconic terraced gardens of the Minack Theatre and discover stories of Cornwall’s notorious smuggling heritage, maritime wrecks of the South West and interesting insights into the Cornish heroine Daphne Du Maurier with a free archive trail from 19:30. Audiences are then invited to enjoy the outdoor screening from 20:15 with the Theatre’s spectacular view as the backdrop.
Ticket prices: £14.00 full / £7.00 concessions
