Presenter Chris Serle unearths one of cinema’s first ever slapstick duos – Cocl & Seff, the long lost characters played by Austrian’s Rudolf Walter and Josef Holub who performed together from 1913.
The core element of Cocl & Seff’s comedy was the play-off between a larger more intelligent character and one that was thinner and more stupid. Sound familiar? A forerunner to the more famous silent comedy double act Laurel & Hardy, only a few Cocl & Seff films have survived to this day. Filmarchiv Austria has made a few significiant discoveries in its search for Austrian productions in the world's film archives and this is an extremely rare opportunity to see some of this long-lost comic duo in action.
