A remake of the 2012 South Korean thriller Confession of Murder, director Yu Irie's take is a gripping look at man who confesses to a string of unsolved murders that terrorised Tokyo 22 years ago.
When a legal loophole allows a series of unsolved murders' eligibility for prosecution to expire, the fame-hungry killer announces a book confessing to the decades-old crimes, inciting a media frenzy. Taunting case detectives while performing outlandish gestures of apology to his victim's families yet still describing his crimes in proud detail, his jibes are all the more personal for the lead detective on the original case, whose mentor was the final victim.
