Winner for Best Film and Best Director at the Oscars®, Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Crimson Peak) returns with this deliciously weird and extraordinary fairytale about the romance between a lonely, isolated woman and an amphibious creature.
Sally Hawkins stars as Eliza, a cleaner working in a secret US government facility in 1962 who communicates through signing (her vocal chords were removed as a child). Here she stumbles across a strange marine creature (del Toro regular Doug Jones) who is being experimented on by the cruel research head (Michael Shannon). Eliza is curious about the creature and strikes up an unlikely friendship which slowly turns to love - and the pair hatch a plan...
Combining elements of romantic fantasy, B-movies, monster films and mid century thrillers, this is proof that love takes many forms, and it's a wonderful thing. Enjoy.
