Please note: This event took place in July 2018
Some of the most distinctive voices in cinema curation open up a conversation on the importance of re-presenting and reframing archives, and in shifting our perspective on the past. Expect provocations from guests including Jemma Desai (Founder of I am Dora), The Final Girls, Joan Parson (Time is Now), Sally Griffith (Anim18), writer/curator Karen Alexander, Charlotte Harman (Compass Presents) and Dr Shawn Sobers (Associate Professor of Lens-based Media at UWE) as well as space for conversations about individual challenges and ideas.
There’s plenty to learn from organisations and practitioners that have stepped - or enthusiastically jumped - off well-trodden paths to create a space for audiences to (re)discover and reframe lesser known materials. How might showing a wider range and depth of perspectives impact on future approaches to programming and audiences’ experience of cinema? If we can shift our perspective, a different picture might just begin to emerge both on and off screen.
Co-presented with BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) partners including Film Hub North, now leading on major FAN wide film screen heritage activity, this is the first in a series of initiatives aimed at inspiring and challenging the exhibition and archive sector to reframe film heritage in the context of BFI2022 priorities and beyond.
Tickets: This event is free for BFI Film Audience Network Members only. FAN members can Fill in this form to register a place on the workshop.
