Looking for America Sunday Brunches
Please note : this season finished in Oct 2016
Andrea Arnold’s new film American Honey (screening from Fri 14 Oct) is the latest example of the road movie; one of the most iconic and quintessentially American film genres which allows not only an exploration of the vastness of the continent but also reflection on more personal journeys. These are films which serve as route maps into the cultural zeitgeist revealing the desires and anxieties of a country.
In October, to celebrate the release of American Honey, we present a season of classic American road movies. From the counter-cultural appeal of Easy Rider (Sun 2 Oct) to the strange existentialist journey to nowhere that was Two Lane Blacktop (Sun 9 Oct); we've a road movie of family dysfunction in Little Miss Sunshine (Sun 16 Oct); before a stop off at Ridley Scott’s visionary feminist fable Thelma and Louise (Sun 23 Oct); as well as Alexander Payne’s cross-country road trip across the heartland of America to Nebraska (Sun 30 Oct) all part of the itinerary.
