Music Biopic Brunches
Please note : this season finished in Aug 2017
From post-punk rockers to country singers, Californian surf combos to folk legends, films about celebrated musicians have been a rich source of inspiration for filmmakers and actors alike. To mark the release of Morrissey biopic England Is Mine (opening on Fri 4 Aug) we revisit some of cinema’s most noteworthy portrayals of musical icons.
Including, Sissy Spacek's thoroughly natural portrayal of Country music legend Loretta Lynn in Michael Apted's Coal Miner's Daughter (Sun 6 Aug); the Beach Boy's Brian Wilson whose joyful harmonies and ingenious arrangements concealed a private struggle with addiction and mental illness in Love and Mercy (Sun 13 Aug); Sam Riley in his stunning breakout performance as Joy Division’s Ian Curtis in Anton Corbijn's Control (Sun 20 Aug); and a passionate, warts-and-all chronicle of the relationship between Johnny Cash and June Carter in James Mangold’s Walk The Line (Sun 27 Aug) which has proven to be among the most popular music biopics of all time.
