Shextreme Film Festival 2019
Please note : this season finished in Oct 2019
Shextreme is a cinematic celebration of women in extreme sports and adventure. The first film festival of its kind in the world, we’re delighted to welcome Shextreme as it celebrates its fifth edition with another brilliant programme including female-led adventure film premieres, inspiring speakers, live adventure art and poetry performances.
It all kicks off on Fri 4 Oct with a screening of director Jen Randall’s (Psycho Vertical) and British adventurer Sarah Outen's hotly anticipated Home. This engaging documentary tells the story of Sarah's 20,000 mile, human-powered journey as she traversed the globe by bike, kayak and rowing boat. Sarah will also be joining us for a Q&A after the screening.
Afterwards, enjoy that fun Friday feeling in the bar at Shextreme's Opening Night party, showcasing local Bristol talent Kim Piffy and Libby Parfitt creating live adventure art around this year's important festival theme of women in adventure's mental wellbeing. There'll also be a female-led DJ set, some incredible adventure photography on show, plus a Shextreme concept store celebrating female-led adventure companies.
On Sat 5 Oct, Wheels, Waves & Wellbeing includes short films from the worlds of mountain biking, skateboarding and an exclusive world premiere of Undercurrents - a surf documentary exploring neuroscience, blue mind and the state of flow in surfing from multiple female perspectives, including director of British Surfing Arlene Maltman. The event will also include a panel discussion about women in adventure’s wellbeing.
One of Shextreme's continuing missions is to improve gender equality in adventure filmmaking, and on Sun 6 Oct the Shextreme Film School will be taking place at Paintworks to support and train more women behind the camera in adventure filmmaking.
So spark your sense of adventure and join us for a fun and uplifting celebration of adventure-loving, active women on screen and behind the lens.
