Cary Comes Home

Season

Please note : this season finished in Nov 2022

The fifth Cary Comes Home Festival focusses this year on the theme of “Class”, with accessible film screenings with Descriptive Subtitles and panel discussions celebrating the working-class heritage of Archibald Leach aka Cary Grant.

Born in Bristol in 1904 as the son of a tailor’s presser, Leach went on to become the epitome of Hollywood elegance and style as Cary Grant. He returned to the city of his birth regularly and never forgot his roots. This tension between Archie/Cary is something we see Grant battle with throughout his life, in front of and behind the camera.

The films we'll be screening at Watershed as part of the festival are Sylvia Scarlett on Sat 19 Nov 10:00 with an introduction by researcher Jade Evans, and None But The Lonely Heart on Sun 20 Nov 10:00 with an introduction and Q&A with Ehsan Khoshbakht.
