Mr Capra Comes To Watershed
Until Mon 23 Dec
Most people know about Jimmy Stewart's seasonal journey to discover the true meaning of family and community in It's A Wonderful Life, which has become a hardy end of year perennial here at Watershed. But how many people know of the film’s director Frank Capra and his extraordinary influence on Hollywood's approach to story telling?
In the run-up to the festive annual screening of his classic, we are presenting a new documentary Frank Capra: Mr America directed by Bristol-based director Matt Wells alongside some of his other classic films.
The line up includes Oscar®-winning rom-com It Happened One Night (1934) with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, political satire Mr Smith Goes to Washington (1939), starring Jimmy Stewart alongside Jean Arthur, more screwball comedy in You Can't Take it With You, Cary Grant being hilarious in Arsenic and Old Lace and of course one of the most perfect Christmas films of all time It's A Wonderful Life.
