A boring meeting gets exciting!
This story was made in a four and a half day training workshop for facilitators and artists working in Henbury. It was led by Aikaterini Gegisian, Liz Milner and Paddy Uglow with support from Helen Boal and was supported by Bristol’s Museums, Galleries & Archives.
Another meeting. A Henbury meeting. But wait! There is an air of excitement in the room. A sense of anticipation, of concoction, of something being cooked up.
It is approaching Christmas. I learn that a transformation is occurring. I hear talk of reindeer, of piles of sweets, of digging out costumes from church hall cupboards. “Who will be the elf?”
The rotund St Nick will shower children with confectionery (marshmallows or similar so as not to dent tiny heads).
A whirlwind of glue, paper, scissors whips around the room, catching me up in its wake. It swirls on to talk of illuminations, lanterns… HEALTH & SAFETY! NAKED FLAMES!
“It’s ok! We can use torches!” (A sigh of relief, Henbury can sleep safe).
The whirlwind pauses, and it’s explained: A lantern-making workshop will take place! Light up the shops! Truckloads of mince pies!
And my favourite part of this Henbury plan? A SNOW MACHINE!!!
