Jack Mundy - Artist

Jack Mundy

Most people find Jack hard to understand. For this reason we asked John from art+power to interview him and help us type the script. We hope it is accurate, but we can’t guarantee it. - Paddy, BristolStories.org

John: Well this is Jack Mundy’s artwork, and Jack. Talk us through.

Jack: This is a good one.

John: What is it?

Jack: It’s a pattern that comes out of the side.

John: So it’s just patterns then, this painting?

Jack: It’s shapes but I didn’t do it in water[colour].

John: So you just do shapes and see what comes out?

Jack: I do shapes. Yes.

John: How about this one Jack? What’s this all about?

Jack: This is all blue, in pen.

John: And this one’s interesting – looks like a fire coming out of a mountain.

Jack: Yes, that’s right, this is a fire going up.

John: Where did you get the inspiration for this piece?

Jack: It came out of my head.

John: Here’s an interesting piece Jack. You did this with pen? What do you think about this piece, or this piece now?

Jack: I want to carry on with that, make it come out bigger

John: To improve it?

Jack: I’ve got to do it all, the whole frame. All different shapes. I’ve got to make it look like my own work.

John: It’s interesting artwork you’ve got here Jack. This one of the dragons you did.

Jack: This one I want people to see it everwhere. On this side its white: a triangle.

John: Inspiration is the key to art, What do you think about inspiration? Where do you get the inspiration to acheive all this great painting?

Jack: I use my brain for that.

John: You use the memories of what you’ve done?

Jack: Yeah, all the memories of where I go. It’s hard work – I’ve got to conecntrate.

Jack: This one you can’t see it now. I’ll make it clearer. Make all the colours come up.

John: You want it to stand out? The colours? So people can see the blues, see the greens…

Now Jack, we’ve already discussed this one. This took you how long?

Jack: Six hours on Monday.

John: Six hours! That’s a record that is.

Jack: With this picture I always keep going that way, and on this side you cant see it.

John: You want to bring the art critics back?

And here’s one of the last ones – the jigsaw piece.

Jack: All the blues and blacks and the love of it… bring it out.

John: That’s cool, Jack.
