Grant travels through time and straight into a battle between Celts and Romans in Cirencester.
The Museum of Bristol ran a project called Roman Roots in which young people investigated the ruins of a Roman villa in Lawrence Weston. This workshop marked the culmination of the project, and the stories incorporate what was learnt and the activities involved in the project.
I traveled to Cirencester in search of some Roman facts.
When I got to the town something strange happened.
There was a weird feeling around me and suddenly there were strange sounds, and i felt like i was spining all over the place.
When I stopped spinning there were loads of people around me.
Some of them were riding in chariots which were really fast and had weird designs on them.
And then I realised that I had traveled back in time to the Roman period in Cirencester.
I was so shocked!
I looked around and what i saw was so strange… the strong smells of rich spices and fresh fruit, and the bright clashing colours painted on the people houses.
Suddenly this old women with some sort of walking stick came towards me and asked me, “You’re not from arounds these lands are you?”
I was too scared to speak.
All of a sudden there were hords of noises from the entrance and there were people who looked like an army raging towards the town.
Then the old women shouted, “Run child, the savages are coming.”
I was really scared!
What was happening?
Then I realised that they were Celts.
They were so powerful with their weapons and their transportation.
The Celts were fierce looking and their clothing was made of animal skins.
They seemed even more scary with their terrible bad breath!
I thought it was the end of me when I saw a Celt coming at me with his fierce sword.
I closed my eyes and waited for the feel of the cold metal blade to strike.
I thought this was the end of Grant Tooze! will I ever see my roman roots team ever again
But then I heard a voice call me.
I opened my eyes and realised i was back in my present time.
I was so happy to be safe.
But I wonder what happened to the old woman. Did she survive the Celtic attack?
