This story was made at the Theatre Orchard “Storyshed” workshop with young people from Priory Community School, Weston-super-Mare, and adults from Somerset Racial Equality Council’s Friendship group with funding from www.media-box.co.uk
The workshop was led by Liz Milner, Clodagh Miskelly and Paddy Uglow (CreativeMedia.org.uk), and was supported by Watershed.
A parallel Design/Technology project at Priory School to make ‘story gadgets’ for the Storyshed installation was led by Tarim from the Pervasive Media Studio – www.pmstudio.co.uk/collaborator/tarim
When my Mum was younger she was very naughty as a child. She used to play a lot of tricks on her Maths teacher, Mrs Wright. Once she unwound a cassette tape and wound it all round the chairs and tables, just to make her laugh! She was naughty but she was very happy and cheerful as her Dad was a clown and she helped out doing the tight-rope walk and juggling. She married young and had 3 children but sadly the youngest one died at 8 weeks old. A few years later she had another child, my sister Kaylah. A couple of weeks late my mum had to have open heart surgery to fix the hole in her heart. Later on she divorced and met my Dad and married him. She had me and my sister. She recently has had to have spinal surgery. After the surgery my Mum was still active and she wanted to do things even though she wasn’t quite able to. I’d come home sometimes and tidy up the mess that was there like if she had dropped something. She’s recently gone to see a cardiologist and might have to have brain surgery. We both have a positive attitude and are very close. On weekends we watch movies, like Wildchild and Twilight but her favourite film’s Titanic – even though it makes us cry.
