One day, when I was small, my father said to me “Someday you’ll have your own. Someday you’ll be in charge, you’ll be in control. You’ll be the one who holds the space.”
I didn’t know what he meant then. I do now. It’s been a long time here, and people don’t realise, they don’t get it; they walk past, they walk over, they cycle, they play in the fountains near me, they moved around from one part… to another part, and they won’t realise, ever, that I’m here. Just because it’s a new bridge, just because it’s a new bridge.
Sometimes a boat goes past, and they won’t realise but, like dad said, you’ve just gotto keep on the job, you’ve gotta do your duty, you’ve gotta be here.
So, here I am, where it’s dark, where it’s wet and no one ever, no one ever says “Hey. Come on, let’s go for a beer”. Just because I’m a troll.
