This story was made on a 90 Second Challenge (www.dshed.net/90secondchallenge) First Film workshop for people in St Pauls, led by Watershed and BBC staff.

Stories were shot and edited in one day during Sept 2005 at St Pauls Learning & Family Centre. The workshop was for people who hadn’t made a film before, and the films had to be no longer than 90 seconds.

Transcript

Hello. I’m Stephen Russell, a local artist from St Pauls. I’m a photographer and I rent a small photography studio in St Pauls.

I’d also like to take you on a tour of my community. Since working a photographer locally I’ve learned so much more about St Pauls’ history and the people. I’ve also met other artists.

I’d like to introduce another local artist, his name is Bandele. He’ll tell you more about his work in St Pauls.

[Bandele]“One of the cameras; one of the major cameras that I use for my work. It’s a large format camera - it was about 1975 when it was made, but it’s as modern as anything else.”

St Pauls Learning Centre provides courses and information for people who are interested in using art as a way of expressing themselves. It’s also fully equipped with a darkroom and it’s a good place to eat.

Locally I shop at Tony’s for fruit and veg and most women in the community, they’d go to Kitty and Ali for ther make-up or hair products.

I enjoy living in St Pauls; it’s central and it’s a multi-cultural community.
