I came to Bristol in the autumn of 2004. Since, I have lived in different parts of Bristol: Totterdown, Temple Meads and St Paul’s. I moved to Easton a year ago.
When you ask people in Bristol “What do you think of Easton?” what do they say? Many people think that Easton is not a good place to live – they say it’s a dirty, rough area, or maybe even violent. I say “Sorry - I don’ agree.” For me this is one of my favourite parts of Bristol. Do they know Stapleton Road, or Saint Mark’s Road?
There are a lot of mosques, churches, cafés, pubs, community centres, shops, and markets. The area is very vibrant, dynamic, amazing, lively because of the diversity of the people and culture.
Because there are so many different ethnic groups living in Easton, like, Pakistanis, Indians, Jamaicans, Sudanese and others. It is often difficult to realise how much activity is going on in this community.
But the thing I like most about living in Easton is the food - mmmm!
There are a lot of Somali restaurants. I can eat Somali food. As well I can eat Indian food, Chinese food, Caribbean food… all the dishes. It reminds me of food in Somalia and the life I used to have.
Now, do you like Easton?
