Just over 24 hours to go until Sue Austin becomes a delicious drop in the ocean in her first public London Festival 2012 performance, Creating the Spectacle! Part 1: The Mouth of the Fleet Lagoon.
The performance with local school children and a lucky handful of stewards will start at 12 noon in Portland, Dorset and PUSH ME will be there, filming Sue and her underwater journey from the delicious vantage point of a see through bottomed boat.
Sue’s artistry pushes the boundaries of what is possible into strange and sometimes uncomfortable waters – but we all know that good art dances best on an edge and there’s a double edge at play here. As Sue explains
The performance is about me moving through into a new dimension or about being swallowed up. This very much depends on how you choose to see it.
For those who have been lucky enough to see some of her undewater footage shot in Egypt, one cannot fail to feel something powerful at work: a palpable reconfiguration of what we think and feel about what’s possible and who should do what, where. As Sue herself told us in her first PUSH ME film which will be screened shortly in The Space.
People have said, if you can do that, i can do anything…
She’s not wrong. We’ll bring you coverage of the event as soon as we’re out of the water and we’ll be filming Sue straight after, and finding out more about this midpoint push in her Unlimited commission once she’s had a nice towel down and a soya hot chocolate.
In the meantime, why don’t you feast on Sue’s Red Bull interview with Bella Todd, it’s a complete buzz.
