We are still asking ourselves how Caroline Bowditch on the morning of the premiere of her new and most ambitious work to date in the face of the torrential rain forecast  managed to be so utterly composed at our early morning Push Me shoot.  Her composition Leaving Limbo Landing last Saturday 7th July, supported by East London Dance was likewise, slick, surprising and defied all expectations and the rain too!  Having seen just a small section of the work back in May at 3 Mills Studios, we were able to experience the full piece and see the integration of the different aspects of the commission.  Caroline has very strong values about how people connect with the work.  There was inventive and well honed use of sign within the choreography and the brilliant soundtrack from Chris Benstead, did much to scape the look and feel that Caroline intended.

Caroline is not only a consummate professional in her approach to her work, she has a rare sensitivity and optimism about the process of making and showing what to her is absolutely the story she wanted to tell about her emigration to this country and she’s succeeded here in this very solo role as choreographer.

In the weeks ahead we’ll be focusing more on this very striking commission – the thinking behind its costume and design, its participation elements and following it as it travels to the Edinburgh Festival and to Glasgow too in all sorts of weathers.  Caroline will be in conversation at The Southbank in September and her first Push Me Film will join the Push Me Collection soon on The Space.  Check out Caroline’s blog and future dates for the tour as part of Festival 2012.
