Hello! Rife Magazine ceased publishing new work in July 2022.

We've kept the magazine online as an archive and hope you'll still continue to enjoy all of its contributions from the last 8 years.

FREE MASTERCLASS: ‘How to become a journalist’

NOTE: This masterclass is full. You can sign up for the waiting list via email .

Want to know how to get into journalism, whatever your background, what makes a truly great interview and how to write? Well, our upcoming FREE masterclass is for you if you’re aged aged 16-24.

You’re probably wondering why Snoop Dogg is running this masterclass. He’s not. We’ll get to him though. First, now we’ve got your attention, here’s some details…

WHEN IS IT?: Thursday, 18th September 2014, 6.30pm–8pm (places allocated on first come first served basis)

WHERE IS IT?: Inside the Watershed in the Pervasive Media Studio Events Space.  Find your way up through the bar and follow the signs for Pervasive Media Studio, then ring the buzzer.

The talk will start at 6.30pm sharp and there will be plenty of time to ask questions afterwards. If you have any specific questions about your own work then it would be good to prepare those.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?: Our guest speaker, Elizabeth Day (author and features writer for The Guardian and Observer/person who has interviewed Snoop Dogg and Zachary Quinto amongst a lot of other famous actors, musicians and people) will be talking you through her career from how she got into it to where she is now.

You’ll walk away from this with some real-life advice on how to advance your journalism career. She’ll talk about how anyone from any background can make it as a journalist, what makes a truly great feature, interview techniques and pitching articles to editors, as well as anecdotes of interviewing some of the most famous people in the world.

WHO IS THIS FOR?: Aspiring writers, journalists, bloggers and reviewers who want to meet an industry professional, get real-life advice, network with other like-minded souls and get a foot in the door.

WHO IS DOING THE TALK?: Elizabeth Day is an author and journalist. Her critically-acclaimed debut novel Scissors Paper Stone won a Betty Trask Award. Her second novel Home Fires is also published by Bloomsbury. She is a feature writer for the Observer, where she has a wide-ranging brief to write across the paper, incorporating everything from celebrity interviews to crime reportage. Elizabeth is a regular contributor to the Sky News paper review and has appeared on Daybreak, BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Saturday Review and TalkSport’s Late Show.

WHAT NOW?: It’s free so you could just turn up on the day, but we’d appreciate it if you emailed us to let us know you’re coming.
