An Interview With Scarlett
Who are you?
I am Scarlett Fagan (lead singer of The Ruby Cartel as well as The Hawkmen).
Tell us about your music…
My music is predominently soul with a hint of jazz (I’ve been slowly moving into jazz recently). All of my lyrics come straight from the heart and usually reflect some kind of struggle that I’m experiencing at that time.
My musical influences…
I was influenced hugely by my parents taste in music (as most are) and was brought up on old soul,Motown records and loads of reggae too. The singers and songwriters that have influenced me the most are Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, Donny Hathaway…the list goes on. Soul singers just do it for me, I could listen to soul all day.
What would be the highlight of your career?
The highlight of my career…hmmm I would really like to perform at the Brits, or on the Jools Holland show. Jools Holland always has amazing acts on his show, I’ve watched Amy Winehouse’s performances on his show over and over again.
