FREE CINEMA TICKETS: ‘He Named Me Malala’
Rife magazine invites you to a film screening and discussion of the new documentary ‘He Named Me Malala’.
We have ten tickets to give away to anyone under 24 who wants to come to see the film and join us for our discussion.
This is a moving documentary from director Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth), about Malala Yousafzai, who was targeted by the Taliban and severely wounded by a gunshot when returning home on her school bus in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. The then 15-year-old was singled out, along with her father, for advocating for girls’ education, and the attack on her sparked an outcry from supporters around the world. She miraculously survived and became a worldwide advocate for the education of all children, co-founding the Malala Fund and becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
This intimate portrait shows how Malala, her father Zia and her family (now living in Britain) are committed to fighting for education for all girls worldwide. Combining narration of her remarkable story with beautifully animated sequences, Guggenheim records intimate moments with her family and in her new school. Behind the image of the activist and campaigner we discover a warm and playful individual – ‘He Named Me Malala’ is an inspiring portrait of an incredibly brave and resilient young woman who carries a message of hope for all women in the world.
