Picks of the Week: Half-Term Special
Discover five amazing events on the Rife Guide this week, to keep you busy all through the half-term holiday. Have you been counting down the days until half-term? Us to. We know the struggle is real when you’re getting up for school or college on a dark, wet, miserable October morning. Well, do a little dance in celebration with us, because that glorious week of lie-ins has finally arrived, bringing with it a ton of great things to do. And, as an extra-special treat, we’re bringing you not one pick of the week for half-term, but five – so you have absolutely no excuse not to get out there and do something other than hibernate under the duvet. Don’t say we don’t treat you well over here at Rife.
MONDAY:
Brunel’s ss Great Britain is one of Bristol’s top tourist sites. Each week they open the doors of their secret vault (think Indiana Jones) and showcase items from the archive. You can see all sorts of cool things relating to marine history & Victorian artefacts found onboard the ship. It’s at lunchtime on Mondays.
TUESDAY:
Into gaming and comics? You NEED to go to Knowle West Media Centre on Tuesday for the South Bristol Gaming & Anime Expo. There are going to be all sorts of nerdy/awesome things happening: from lightsaber combat workshops, to retro video gaming on all sorts of old consoles. It’s on all day on Tuesday & Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY:
Looking for an opportunity to both get fit and eat cake? Join the team at Horfield Leisure Centre for their 10th birthday party. There will be fitness challenges, £1 gym classes and info about signing up for a membership and get fit. Oh, and there will definitely be birthday cake. The celebrations are happening all day on Wednesday.
THURSDAY:
With Halloween just around the corner, the Monster Mash at Juicy Blitz is going to be spooktakular. Come dressed in your best costume for the chance to win a prize, use the special scary photo booth, and eat some freaky food. It’s going to be a frighteningly good time. The event starts when the sun goes down on Thursday.
FRIDAY:
Our last event of the week is an absolute cracker. Join Bread Youth Project for a morning of FREE high-octane mountain biking in Ashton Court, on specially built routes through the woods. You don’t need to have your own bike – you’ll be borrowing one from their professional bike shop on site, and one of their instructors will take you around. No matter how much biking you’ve done before, by the end you’ll be super confident. There are very limited spaces on the trip, so make sure you tell them you want to go RIGHT NOW because this is such a great opportunity. If you miss out on a place, don’t forget you can go to Ashton Court any time for mountain biking if you’ve got a bike, and you can also do all sorts of other free sport activities in Bristol’s green spaces. Bread Youth’s mountain biking session is on Friday morning.
So what are you up to this half-term? Show us your outings in the sunshine, your hilarious Halloween costumes or the nest you’re hibernating in by tagging us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
